The UMC® Standard Coupler is a shock-attenuating drive connection between the center drive gear motor and final drive gearbox. It has been the industry standard for over 30 years on new systems from Original Equipment Manufacturers. It is available in a variety of sizes and configurations to fit any brand of center pivot.

Irritech has been working with UMC since 2012. The UMC® Standard Coupler is designed to connect the center drive gear motor to the final drive gearboxes. In addition to connecting these critical drive train components the coupler acts as both a torque dampener to absorb start up torque from the gear motor and as a fuse to protect the other critical drive train components in an overload condition.

Use Scenarios

High-Torque Center Pivot Systems in Heavy Soils
In regions with dense, clay-rich soils, the UMC Standard Coupler provides essential torque dampening to protect critical drivetrain components. Its urethane insert absorbs startup torque and acts as a fuse during overload conditions, preventing damage to the final drive gearbox. The alignment rod ensures concentric positioning under extreme loads, making it ideal for systems operating in heavy soils.

Lateral Move Irrigation Systems with Larger Tires
For lateral move systems equipped with larger-diameter tires, the UMC Standard Coupler offers enhanced strength to handle the increased torque and stress. Its design includes curved pressure pads that compensate for misalignment, ensuring optimal performance and extending the lifespan of the drivetrain components.

Towable Irrigation Systems Requiring Quick Disengagement
In towable irrigation systems, the UMC Standard Coupler can be equipped with a grooved insert, allowing for easy conversion between non-towable and towable configurations. This feature facilitates quick disengagement at the gearbox, streamlining the process of moving the system between fields.

FAQ

What is the purpose of the alignment rod in the UMC Standard Coupler?
The alignment rod helps maintain concentric positioning of the coupler under extreme loads, ensuring proper alignment between the center drive gear motor and the final drive gearbox.

Can the UMC Standard Coupler be used with all brands of center pivots?
Yes, the UMC Standard Coupler is available in various sizes and configurations to fit all major brands of center pivots and lateral move irrigation systems.

How does the urethane insert benefit the system?
The urethane insert absorbs startup torque and acts as a fuse during overload conditions, protecting critical drivetrain components and extending the lifespan of the final drive gearbox.

What is the advantage of the grooved insert option?
The grooved insert option allows for easy conversion between non-towable and towable configurations, facilitating quick disengagement at the gearbox and streamlining the process of moving the system between fields.

Is the UMC Standard Coupler suitable for high-torque conditions?
Yes, the UMC Standard Coupler is designed for high-torque, low-speed conditions, making it ideal for systems operating in heavy soils and on systems with larger-diameter tires.
